In 2020, Swallow The Sun will celebrate its twentieth anniversary - two decades of doom, gloom and despair etched in the proverbial platinum. They were supposed to bring Nordic mourning to their legions in Europe and North America, but in the winter months of last year their plans were postponed indefinitely due to a pandemic. "We were supposed to play annual concerts in Europe and North America," singer Mikko Kotamäki recalls. "We started our European tour in February 2020 in Finland and played 10 concerts. Two weeks after that, everything was cancelled. Luckily, we filmed and recorded our concert in Helsinki. Now everyone can see it. At the time we didn't know that the footage or recordings would be used for this purpose." What makes "20 Years of Gloom Beauty and Despair Live in Helsinki" different from almost all live albums is the acoustic performance (with string quartet) of "Songs from the North II" and the setlist chosen by the fans, The set includes not only some of the band's most played songs ("Swallow (Horror, Part 1)", "Cathedral Walls") but also many rarities ("Empires of Loneliness", "Plague of Butterflies" and "Here on the Black Earth").
