After Young and Crazy Horse recorded the album Ragged Glory at the Broken Arrow Ranch in the spring of 1990 and released it in September, they performed the songs to a live audience at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz on November 13. As is customary with Crazy Horse, the fiery show stretched to three sets and over three hours, with songs like "Love And Only Love" and "Like A Hurricane" hypnotically stretching over ten minutes. Catalyst's concert marked the first time "Danger Bird," from Young's 1975 album Zuma, was performed in front of an audience and turned into a psychedelic six-string firework display. Other live premieres on Way Down In The Rust Bucket include "Surfer Joe And Moe The Sleaze", "Love To Burn", "Farmer John", "Over And Over", "Fuckin' Up", "Mansion On The Hill" and "Love And Only Love". The album Way Down in the Rust Bucket - number 11.5 in Neil Young's Performance Series - will be released in several versions. The deluxe edition box set will include a DVD of an electrifying live concert, directed by Bernard Shakey and produced and directed for Shakey Pictures by LA Johnson, and four LPs and two CDs. The DVD includes an additional rendition of "Cowgirl In The Sand" (13 minutes long!) not included on the vinyl or CD. Other releases include a 4LP vinyl box set and a 2CD set.
