In 2021, fans of the English progressive rockers around guitarist, singer, songwriter and mainstay Steven Wilson can look forward to a reissue on CD and double LP. Originally released in 2009, Wilson recorded the album with Richard Barbieri (synth, keyboards), Colin Edwin (bass) and Gavin Harrison (drums). The central track is the 55-minute title track, which is divided into 14 parts that are distinct yet inseparable. The album is rounded out by four more standalone tracks. Steven Wilson got the idea for "The Incident" when he was stuck in traffic because of a car accident: "There was a sign that said 'Police - Incident' and everyone slowed down to see what happened. In retrospect, I think 'incident' is a very distancing word for something that is so devastating and traumatic for those involved," Wilson says. The songs are all written in the first person, attempting to humanize the detached media coverage of each event. The album reached No. 17 on the German charts and No. 25 in the US and UK. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Surround Sound Album category. Wilson himself called the album one of the three best things he has ever done.
